Sometimes “to have a job” is just not enough. You need to feel you are expanding your knowledge and are part of a company where professional projects matter as much as people do. Combining both and finding the perfect company is complicated.

I was looking for a job where I could face enormous challenges. I also wanted to work in an entirely different environment. Quarizmi meets these two requirements, so I couldn’t miss this opportunity.

In Quarizmi, we all work remotely. We have online tools that help us keep communicated and simplify the workflow. We use videoconference for meetings. Some of them are very technical, but we also have more informal meetings; kind of “virtual coffee breaks.”

In technical meetings, we schedule the week. We clarify any doubts and show the progress made and what we have learnt to the rest of the team.We follow Scrum techniques.

Informal meetings are more relaxed. We talk about our achievements in what we call “The Proud moment meeting”. We share both the professional and personal things that make us feel proud. Sometimes these meetings are real fun.

This is me, Andrés.

The team in Barcelona

Ana and me with the Escalivada, a lovely Catalan kinda salad, we had cooked blindfolded.

Everything has its pros and its cons. As interruptions almost do not exist, working in Quarizmi lets you learn at a faster pace and be more productive. Also, as we plan weekly Scrum sprints, you immediately see your progress and feel fulfilled when closing small tasks. Self-managing your working time allows you to adapt it to your family needs. On the contrary, self-discipline and self-control are a must to comply with the schedule.

I’ve been working in Quarizmi for about one month. I started in the first company bunch up in Barcelona. To see how passionate and devoted all Quarizmi members are was an exceptional experience.

It has taken me a while to learn to organize my days. There are always external factors that impact on your daily routine, and you need to consider. The family life, to know your productivity peaks, take into account the meetings you must attend, etc.

From a strictly technical point of view, I know I’m widening my knowledge. Administration of the Amazon AWS, Python, Redis, Microservices, etc. I have even attended the 2015 AWS Barcelona Summit!!

My first days in Quarizmi have been fantastic. I love what I do. I learn something new every day. I spend more time with my family. I organize my agenda and feel I’m more productive and gratified.

I am happier.
